The Pizza Oven: Part 3

Will this thing ever be finished?  Some are doubtful.

The next step in completing the oven was to create a smaller arch for the doorway.  This proved a challenging task, but nothing Phil couldn't tackle.

Notice the dedication: working at night

the first layer of clay

Another layer or two went on after that without photographic documentation.  Then the Chill and Ang decided it was time for a firing to dry the clay.  While it's hot, why not try a pizza?

so we started with a tiny flame

which grew

and GREW!

and, of course, Els was invited since she played such an integral role in this creation
she brought vodka

touch test: too hot, too much heat is escaping = more layers for Felix in the future

we made the pies

but sliding them off the pan proved to be a difficult task, so we just left them.  This one burnt, but there were plenty of tasty ones which came out this night

At least one more layer of clay was added, but not photographed in between.  Unfortunately, that layer was a trial for a new concrete/clay mix, and it failed, peeling off completely.  Don't bring this up with Gilly.  It's a sore subject.

When the parents came, Ang and Phil thought they should show off their oven with another pizza night.  Their practice from the first fire paid off.

checking out the pie with a handy flash light (lighting for pizza oven area still to be installed)

the pizza cooking-on-the-stone technique was perfected although a pizza paddle will
someday be a part of this set up

Noah had a veggie calzone.  It's getting fancy in these pizza ovens.

Noah brought some delicious ice cream with cones for dessert!

And let's face it, those basically stole the show.

Stay tuned for super insulation and beautification.
