For the past year, I have been working as a project coordinator and executive assistant for the Africa Region of Opportunity International. Opportunity is a non-profit microfinance organization that operates in South America, Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe with fundraising partners in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia.
What is Microfinance?
Microfinance is the provision of financial services such as loans, savings, insurance, and training to people living in poverty. It is one of the great success stories in the developing world in the last 30 years and is widely recognized as a just and sustainable solution in alleviating global poverty.
While most of my job is done from home via email, I have had amazing opportunities to travel in the past year to Tanzania, Scotland, and London. I also helped to coordinate the Global Leadership Conference which was held here in Kampala in March 2009.

Please check out their website (link above) to see some of the incredible work that is being done. I feel very fortunate to be involved in this work and be a part of this organization which literally transforms the lives of under served populations around the world.
